The Board meets on the 2nd Tuesday each month.
The Maitland Volunteer Fire Protection District was voted in on November 8, 2005 along with three board members and a maximum tax levy of $.30 per $100 assessed valuation. The district consists of approximately 27 one mile sections of rural area and includes the City of Maitland.
The district uses two trucks, both 1967 Ford 600’s. One is primarily used for in town service to pump from fire hydrants and the other is an all purpose truck with 900 gallons of water that responds first to all fires, city or rural.
The district consists of all volunteers. It averages 10-12 members but always encourages interested parties in joining. Some of the members are also First Responders for the Atchison-Holt Ambulance District.
Other than fighting fires, some of our activities include:
Helping educate Head Start and Elementary students about the fire service and fire protection.
Hosting the Halloween Weiner Roast on Halloween night.
Participating in the Cause for Alarm project funded by Red Cross by going door to door to replace smoke alarm batteries and install detectors.
Helping Santa with deliveries.
The district board members meet monthly on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm at the Maitland City Hall.
The volunteer members meetings are scheduled for the first Sunday of the month at 3:00pm at the Fire Station. (The schedule is subject to change for training or holidays.)
Maitland is served by the
